Nissan Note Nismo First Photos Officially Revealed in Japan

While Renault makes one of the hottest superminis on the planet, the 200 hp Clio RS, the same can't be said about their associates from Nissan. That could be about to change soon, as a hot version of the new Note has been presented today ahead of its debut in the fall.

These are the first photos of the fifth model in the Nismo range (after the GT-R, 370Z, Micra and Juke) and they come from its domestic Japanese market. They show an aggressive body kit with large air intakes, sharp side skirts, a boot spoiler and diffuser. The suspension has also clearly been lowered for better handling and large alloy wheels in a dark metallic tone are fitted.

No specific details are available at the moment, but Nissan did reveal there will be two grades available, Note Nismo and Note Nismo S, each with different flavors. They each come with a different leather seat and there's a third option, a stiffer bucket configuration developed with Recaro.

Nissan offers a powerful 1.6-liter turbo on the Juke Nismo, but we think it's unlikely to be offered on the Note. A little-known Nismo version of the Micra also exists and is offered with either a 1.5-liter or a supercharged 1.2-liter in Japan, both with around 100 horsepower.

In a company press statement, Tamura Hiroshi, chief product specialist NISMO, said the Note Nismo will offer something for customers who want self expression and low fuel consumption, meaning the engines might not be all that hot. The 5-speed manual and CVT gearboxes Nissan plans to offer certainly give credit to our claim.

“Celebrating Nismo’s 30th anniversary, we are planning to expand the number of models available in our road-car lineup. The Note Nismo we introduced today is truly symbolic to the Nismo brand in that it represents the fusion between motorsports that’s embedded in Nismo’s DNA and the success of the Note as a mass production vehicle,” mister Miyatani added.

Just like the Micra Nismo, this Note model looks very unlikely to be offered in Europe or America. Alas, forbidden fruit seems all the more tasty!
