Nissan N-Vision Models Focus On Safety Technologies, Pave the Way for ProPilot

Nissan, the Japanese half of the automotive alliance that has outsold every other electric vehicle manufacturer out there, is that sort of car company that holds safety in high regard. Hence, Nissan’s UK arm has come up with models focused on safety.

Dubbed N-Vision (short for Nissan Vision), the range comprises of everything from the Juke to the X-Trail. Of course, the increasingly popular Qashqai also benefits from this safety-conscious treatment. Marketed as a trim level slotted between the N-Connecta and range-topping Tekna, N-Vision models are enhanced with four key features.

These are Around View Monitor, Lane Departure Warning, a full-color rear view camera, and NissanConnect. I’m just as baffled as you are that Nissan considers its infotainment system a key feature of the N-Vision breed, but the truth is that marketing works in mysterious ways.

In the Juke’s case, the N-Vision treatment also adds goodies such as blind spot monitoring and moving object detection. The Nissan X-Trail N-Vision, however, replaces the N-Tec grade and boasts Smart Vision Pack, Forward Emergency Braking, and Traffic Signal Recognition.

When all is said and done, the most important feature of the N-Vision trim level is Around View Monitor. The array of cameras aren’t only helpful when negotiating tight parking spaces, but Around View Monitor also happens to be crucial for “Nissan’s journey towards ProPilot.”

ProPilot is the Japanese manufacturer's autonomous driving technology, which is slated to debut in Europe in 2017. The Qashqai crossover will be the first European model to be offered with ProPilot, the technology that will anchor the brand’s product evolution through the next decade.

Nissan has stated that there are plans to introduce the technology in the United States and China at a later date. By 2018, the automaker hopes that ProPilot will be ready for automatic lane changes on the highway. By 2020, Nissan ProPilot will have the computing power to drive in the city.
