Nissan Micra Sedan Comes in 2011

The Global Compact Car which has so quickly met the expectations of its creators will soon get an expanded lineup. Japanese manufacturer Nissan is planning the introduction of the sedan version of the Micra next year, in an attempt to capture more of this segment of the market.

The details of the model are not yet completely revealed officially, but the sedan version of the Micra, currently dubbed New Global Sedan, will not boast the tiny size of the hatch version (the official name of the model is expected to be Sunny).

As Kazuhiro Doi, Nissan chief product specialist for the V platform, said in an interview for GoAuto, it will be hard for anyone to recognize the sedan as a Micra: “You won’t believe it is based on the Micra platform, it’s huge.”

The lack of resemblance between the two in terms of size will not be present however when it comes to the interior. Whereas the exterior design of the car will borrow virtually nothing from the Micra, the interior will be pretty much the same as with the hatch.

As for the engines, word is that the sedan version of the Micra will use at least a 1.6l petrol and a 1.5l diesel. The hatch version of the Micra keeps demolishing (in a good way) the expectations Nissan had when it launched it. According to the figures released by the manufacturer this September, the Micra has already exceeded the yearly sales target.

The hatch version will be eventually sold in 160 countries and it's to be expected the sedan version will get its equal share of exposure.
