The title pretty much says it all. Nissan is hard at work testing the all-new subcompact car that will pick up where the current Micra will leave off. The latest info also says that the debut is guaranteed to take place at the Paris Motor Show, as the Flins factory in France will begin production by the end of 2016.
The current Micra looks like VW Beetle or classic Mini; it's cute, small and not very appealing. But the replacement will be as bold as a football player's haircut, with plenty of colors, and cuts added.
We know that because this test prototype, spotted by the Worldscoop forum members in Europe, looks nearly identical to the Sway concept of May 2015.
In my honest opinion, Nissan hasn't made a good design for the Europeans since the Qashqai. This could make the horrors of the geriatric Pulsar hatch go away.
We're not expecting it to drive like a Ford Fiesta. After all, Nissan has always been about style, features, and fuel consumption. The powertrains will be those of the Clio (0.9, 1.2 and 1.5L turbos in petrol and diesel form). However, they will be mounted to CVTs and given even more fuel-saving tech.
There's no denying that the 2017 Micra prototype looks bigger, and we can guarantee that it actually is. The current model was originally designed with Asian consumers in mind, and doesn't match things like the Polo, Corsa or Fiesta for space.
The entire segment seems to be migrating to one type of car, fitted with four doors as standard, a trunk that's at least 300 liters and all the safety tech you could want, but not available as standard. Even though the Micra successor will have all that, so will the next Fiesta, according to ur spy photos. In any case, subcompact will all be about the size of the Golf 4 soon.
