With just about every automaker promising an electric revolution and lots of competition, Nissan’s original mass-market EV has been dwelling in the shadows recently. Still, that doesn’t mean the automaker won’t celebrate its legacy in the most appropriate way, through a new special edition.
The EV market has a lot of new stars on the horizon – such as Volkswagen’s new ID.4 crossover. Automakers are also promising revolutionary new vehicles, from the high-priced 2022 GM Hummer EV to the humble yet stylish, Fiat 500e (oh, don’t even get us started on Tesla’s new Model S and that yoke).
Nissan, on its own, has also announced it is gearing up for the goal of achieving “carbon neutrality across the company's operations and the life cycle of its products by 2050.” As part of its pledge, basically all new vehicles sold by the company in key markets will be electrified even before 2030.
That seems like a rather lofty goal right now, as the Leaf is Nissan's only model currently wandering the roads without causing any harmful emissions. Yes, the fully electric Ariya crossover is coming, but there’s still some time before that happens. Luckily, Nissan thought about bridging the gap with the new Leaf10, which is also celebrating a decade of sales “as the first mass-market EV in the world.”
The new special edition is hitting European dealerships this very month (it’s already available in UK from February 1st, priced from £28,820 OTR – which is about $39,537) and its highlights include a new color option, Ariya-inspired styling details, and a raft of connected technologies.
More precisely, the Leaf10 limited series will be available in Pearl Black Metallic or dressed up in the new dual-tone Ceramica Gray/Pearl Black. Better yet, as a nod to the upcoming Ariya crossover, it has also been treated to a striking and intricate Kumiko pattern that adorns the wing mirrors, black roof, and even the trunk.
The exterior changes are completed with the addition of 17-inch alloy wheels, while the cabin has the In-Car Wi-Fi hotspot with built-in 4G connectivity for a seamless NissanConnect Services experience. Other technologies present on the Leaf10 include the Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention (IBSI) feature, as well as Nissan’s ProPILOT and e-Pedal systems.
