Nissan Leaf to Be Redesigned, Made Cheaper in Europe

Despite being a decent, well thought-out product, Nissan’s Leaf electric car has its fair share of critics, especially people who say it’s to expensive. But apparently, styling is also a problem for the Japanese car, and it will receive a styling update for the European market.

When production starts at Nissan’s plant in Sunderland, UK, the price of the EV will also be lowered according to a company official with the engineering department. Considering how big the gap between it and the recently launched Renault Zoe is, this is definitely a good thing.

"We'll fine tune the car for the European customer from a design point of view," said Colin Lawther, vice president of Nissan engineering in Europe.

"Obviously one of the problems is that the initial purchase price is very high," Lawther told Automotive News Europe. "Making it in the UK will take about a third of the cost of the car out."
