Japanese automaker Nissan has unveiled two new autonomous driving technologies using its all-electric Leaf vehicle at the Nissan 360 event.
The first new feature, which is called Around View Monitor, uses advanced sensors to monitor the full 360 degrees around the car looking for possible obstacles, such as vehicles, road signs and signals.
The second technology showcased by Nissan enables the car to react to the data that the sensors collect. Combined with the Around View Monitor system, this second feature helped demonstrate how technologies work in real-world road situations like autonomous side distance control, intersection entry and turning/overtaking with oncoming traffic monitor.
All told, Nissan demonstrated that the new safety features helps the Leaf pass through a junction while avoiding oncoming traffic or detect and overtake a parked car at the side of the road.
