Prices for the hotly anticipated Nissan Juke Nismo RS have been announced today. The model is going to be available through Nissan dealerships throughout Britain for the price of £21,995, which is what you'd pay for an entry-level Audi A3.
The Juke Nismo RS is not, however, to be considered cheap. Sister company Renault sells the Clio RS 200 EDC for £20,590 and includes a better chassis and the twin-clutch auto gearbox as standard.
That's a lot less money than a Golf GTI, which has long been considered the hot hatch benchmark. But while VW needs a 2-liter turbo engine to give you 220 PS, the guys at Nissan did it with a 1.6 DIG-S, which you might know from the new Clio RS. The exact output squeezed from the 1.6 is 218PS (160kW), while torque in two-wheel drive/manual transmission versions is 280Nm.
The Juke Nismo RS comes with two slightly different flavors. There's the basic model which comes with front-wheel drive only, and there's the AWD model that uses a CVT. This one is slightly down on torque and more expensive. Another thing worth considering is that AWD eats into 40% of the trunk space.
If the engine doesn't impress you, than maybe the kit on offer will. The Nismo RS is a sexy little crossover with lowered suspension, a stiffer body, bigger brakes a throatier exhaust and aggressive styling.
Optionally, you can order bolstered Recaro seats, a panoramic roof and some pretty snazzy paint. But the best think of all is that this pocket rocket is home-grown at the Sunderland factory, which is more than we can say about the German wolf.
