Renault-Nissan’s CEO is one of the most practical figures in the auto industry, so it’s pretty big thing to see him on the Tokyo Motor Show stage, proposing an affordable sports car to the world. This is what the IDx NISMO Concept pictured above stands for.
Together with the IDx Freeflow, a more down-to-earth proposal on the same theme, the IDx NISMO allows the Japanese carmaker to test the market. Depending on the public’s reaction to the pair of concept, Nissan will decided whether to bring a thrird go-fast proposal alongside the GT-R and the 370Z.
Compared to the IDx Freeflow, the IDX NISMO is about half a meter wider and comes with side-mounted tailpipes. Nissan proposes its turbocharged 1.6-liter DIG-T engine working with a CVT gearbox in here.
Pay close attention to the styling cues and you’ll notice the design is inspired from the Datsun 510, which brought Nissan two Trans Am Series class trophies back in 1971 and 1972.
