Nissan GT-R Quarter Mile World Record Has Fallen: 7.44s at 200 MPH

Over the last few years, the Nissan GT-R quarter mile world record has fallen more often than a novice trying to get a job at Cirque Du Soleil. We didn't expect this sprinting war to change in 2016 and we're glad to report it hasn't.

In fact, we're here to talk about the car that now holds that record, an extreme example of Godzilla that will show you what it can do with the help of the footage below.

If we are to talk numbers, we'll mention this GT-R pulled a 7.44s quarter mile at 200 mph (322.5 km/h), breaking the record for both areas.

The car is run by a team called EKanoo Racing - you might have heard of them over a different record, since these people enjoy keeping their trophy cabinet loaded.

The original built comes from T1 Race Development, who threatened the aftermarket world with unleashing at least 2,276 hp at the wheels back in October - you might remember their car thanks to its ridiculously-sized turbos and their hood-mounted flaming exhaust system.

However, if we check out the 1,358s 60-foot rollout time, we'll notice the launch is less than perfect, which only means this car hasn't reached its full potential yet.

That means the battle between the now-reigning GTR and the one that used to hold the record, AMS' Alpha Omega, is on for yet another year. We'll remind you Alpha Omega claimed back its record from Extreme Turbo Systems' R35 back in July, pulling a 7.485s pass at 192.97 mph.

The Alpha Omega's 1,283 60-foot time speaks for itself in terms of the upcoming war. We'll remind you that, unlike T1 Race Development, AMS Performance have gifted their car with a 4-liter billet aluminum block last year, working to boost reliability.

With the R35 GT-R almost ready to retire, this is a great time to keep an eye on what the US aftermarket scene can do for this Nissan.
