Nissan GT-R Fire Fighter Takes Over Nurburgring

Japanese automaker Nissan has just announced that its 2010 GT-R model will take over the Nurburgring race track again, only this time with the fire-fighting version. This way, Nissan is providing the fastest possible response to emergency calls at the Nordschleife circuit.

The 2010 Nissan GT-R holds in fact the record for the fastest lap time at the German track. As we reported at that time, on April 23 the car completed the track in just 7:26:70. Therefore, this fire-fighting model can get to the incident scene in the quickest time possible.

The car is equipped with a fire extinguishing system with water and foam on board attached to a hose pipe, the redesigned Nissan GT-R was given as a gift from the Japanese manufacturer to the Nurburgring operator for the company’s collaboration in developing the 485HP supercar.

However, the conversion was not made by the carmaker itself, but by M&M Automotive, a Bonn-based specialist in car development and motor sports. The final and official version of this fast service vehicle was presented by Michael Bierdumpfl, Director of Communication at Nissan Center Europe to Dr. Walter Kafitz, Managing Director of Nurburgring.

The Nissan GT-R’s two standard backseats were taken out and replaced with a 50-litre water tank, which was secured with a roll cage. There is a medium-pressure extinguisher system (20 bars) as well as a winding device for the hose.

The only other differences between this Nissan GT-R and one straight from the factory is the additional radio communication system, the new Recaro sports seats and the roll bar. According to the manufacturer, with a foam reach of around 18 meters and a 20-metre hose, the unit will be able to fight fire for around two minutes on one tank.
