The hype the Nissan GT-R got when it was originally launched was fully deserved. Back then, the Japanese offered performance usually reserved for supercars at prices that simply defied common sense. Today things are a bit different as most of the pack started catching up.
Over the year, the Nissan received various upgrades that were meant to make it even more track capable and the Nismo version is probably the epitome of them all. However, unfortunately, the pricing also went up and people started waking up.

Today, the GT-R is no longer the feared Godzilla it used to be, cars with much lesser ambitions being capable of keeping up, especially in drag race. That’s all true for when these races are not done from a standstill, of course.

That’s because from a standstill, the Nissan will defeat nearly every car on this planet thanks to its advanced launch control module and all-wheel drive setup. With a 2.7-second dash to 100 km/h (62 mph), it’s hard to take on the GT-R.

On the other hand, the race below shows us what can happen in a rolling drag race and the one that teaches the Japanese a lesson in humility is a BMW M6 Gran Coupe.

Specs show small differences

Both cars have similar power and torque outputs, with a slight advantage for the Bimmer. The M6 has 560 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque coming from under the bonnet while the Nissan has 550 HP and 632 Nm (466 lb-ft) of torque. As you can see the difference is rather small. The same can be said about the transmissions where the 6-speed auto from the GT-R is supposed to be faster than the 7-speed DCT on the M car.

However! The big news comes from the weight department. That’s where the German is massively overshadowed, the Japanese being over 300 kg (661 lbs) lighter.

Considering the comfort the 4-door coupe offers along with the bespoke interior and the extremely small difference the two show in this all-out race, we’d take the BMW over the Nissan any day.
