Nissan Fuga Ceremony at Tochigi Plant

Nissan held a ceremony for its new Fuga model at Tochigi Plant, the place where the Japanese manufacturer builds all its high-end vehicles. The Fuga is a full-size a luxury car from Nissan, introduced in October 2004.  It was first shown as the Fuga Concept at the 2003 Tokyo Motor Show and it is a direct replacement for the long running Cedric and Gloria series of cars. Nissan celebrated the second generation model which will go on sale in Japan on November 19.

During the event, Nissan Chief Operating Officer Toshiyuki Shiga said: "The Nissan Tochigi Plant is a center of excellence for quality, where our global luxury line-up of Infiniti, as well as the GT-R supercar, are built and exported worldwide. The all-new Nissan Fuga is our flagship model embodying the best quality and craftsmanship. I am confident this new luxury sedan will be well-accepted by our customers."

If interested in the Fuga, you may choose from the 3.7-liter V6 or the 2.5-liter V6 engine, which Nissan promises to be powerful, silent and eco-friendly. The Fuga also benefits from the "ECO-pedal", a system that detects each time the driver steps heavily on the gas pedal. If the system "thinks" you're accelerating too fast and therefore waste gas, it will activate a counter push-back. The good news is that it can be deactivated.

Another innovation is the "Double Piston Shock Absorbers" that employ a double piston construction to improve handling and ride quality by increasing oil flow inside the shock absorber to reduce vibration from road.

The "Drive Mode Selector" is another first for Nissan. The system adjusts engine response, transmission shift schedule and 4-wheel active steering. The Fuga will only be sold on the Japanese market as a Nissan, as to the rest of the world it will be introduced as Infiniti M.
