The São Paulo Motor Show is not exactly the pinnacle of auto shows in the calendar, but still the event manages to make the headlines thanks to a host of innovative concepts shown there.
Given Brazil’s terrain, is only natural we usually see mostly truck concepts being shown there for the first time. We’ve already got a taste of the Volkswagen Tarok, a pickup truck for the masses expected to go on sale locally in 2020.

A more specialized model currently on display at the São Paulo Expo Exhibition & Convention Center is the Nissan Frontier Sentinel, a truck purposely designed for emergency services and rescue missions in the Brazilian wilderness.

Created by the studio the Japanese operate locally, the concept is based on the Frontier (Navara on other markets) and comes equipped, aside for the internal combustion engine, with two battery packs taken from the Nissan Leaf. These are used to provide auxiliary power to the truck’s additional systems.

But the real magic is the cargo bed of the pickup, where all the ingenuity of its designers is being displayed.

It is here that the batteries are located, packed between drawers which allow for the storage of gloves, flashlights, helmets, ropes, axes, toolboxes and other equipment. Two power outlets have also been fitted.

At the top of the bed sits a deployable platform which can be used as takeoff and landing pad for drones.

The Sentinel is painted in a color called Thunder-Blue, inspired, says Nissan, by the Brazilian hyacinth macaw, a species of parrot specific to the region. Special lighting on top of the windshield rounds up the exterior look.

At the interior, the concept comes with an Electric-Yellow dashboard and central console with a design inspired by electric circuits. The same yellow can be found on the seat trim and stitches.

Nissan did not specify if it intends of turning the Frontier Sentinel into a production version.
