Six months after announcing their partnership with Cummins for a diesel-powered next-generation Titan truck, Nissan decided to put an oil burner into the smaller Frontier pickup as well.
Unfortunately, we’re not talking about a production vehicle, but a concept truck fitted with a 2.8-liter Cummins turbo diesel that’s supposed to deliver “nearly 200 horsepower” and “more than 350” pound-feet of torque. Connected to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, mill is estimated to increase fuel economy 35 percent over the gasoline V6 version of the truck.

Still a couple of years away, the Frontier Diesel Runner Concept will become the first mid-size truck to fight Chevy’s brand new Colorado, which will get a diesel engine for the 2016 model year. Maybe it’s about time Toyota starts thinking about a diesel Tacoma.
