Nissan Expands UK Production, Creates New Jobs

Since we're living during recession times, reports telling us about companies that lower production and fire hundreds or maybe thousands of workers are quite natural. However, Nissan expects to perform better, especially in the United Kingdom, where it plans to increase production and, more importantly, to add some new staff.

According to the report issued by globalmotors.net, the Japanese automaker will hire some new 150 employees in the United Kingdom to help it align production with the market demand. The reason? Nissan's sales grew a bit in the last months and buyers have become more interested in the products belonging to the Japanese company.

Nissan is also benefiting from the 2,000 pounds government incentives who reduce the total price of less-polluting models for buyers who agree to trade in their old car. However, officials figures are not yet revealed, so we can't say for sure how many of Nissan's sales are actually a direct result of these incentives.

But we do know Nissan sold a total of 3,411,000 vehicles worldwide in fiscal year 2008, down 9.5% compared with the year before. But even so, the company is seeing the first signs of recovery and today's report is surely the living proof, despite the fact that it expects things to worsen in 2009, with sales to decline even more in all markets.

"The global economic recession and financial crisis continue, but we are beginning to see some signs of improved access to credit, the impact of government stimulus packages and a gradual return in consumer confidence," said Nissan President and CEO Carlos Ghosn. "We remain cautious about the economic environment and fully focused on our company's recovery efforts."
