Nissan Dualis (Qashqai) Gets 1.6 dCi Diesel

In 2011, Renault announced it was going to replace its 1.9 dCi diesel with a new, smaller engine with better economy. The unit known internally as the R9M was also adopted last year by the partner company Nissan for its popular Qashqai crossover as an alternative to its 2.0 dCi.

Nissan Australia has just announced the updated 2013 Dualis, as the Qashqai is known in the country, will also be available with this small diesel unit. It will only be available with the AUD29,990 Dualis TS, which comes standard with rear tinted glass and fog lights.

The 1.6-liter DOHC diesel engine makes 130 PS (96 kW) and 320 Nm of torque. It will only be available with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. What is lost in terms of off-road performance is gained when it's time to visit the fuel pumps. The car only needs 4.5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers on the combined cycle, being one of the most frugal models in its class.
