Nissan DeltaWing Driver Trying to Restart Car After Crash

Despite having the most peculiar shape of any car participating at Le Mans this year, the Nissan DeltaWing was by no means slow and put on quite a show. Sadly, a Toyota driver decided that the DeltaWing shouldn’t be in the race and simply pushed the featherweight racecar off the track and into the wall.
The car did not appear to have suffered much damage at first, but as its driver Satoshi Motoyama was trying desperately to revive it with the help of mechanics with whom he was able to communicate through the fence surrounding the track, he discovered that his efforts were futile.

The right rear wheel seemed jammed and the car was going nowhere, due probably to the fact that modern racing cars are designed to absorb an impact and distribute the force around its body shell, thus damaging and moving various components of their delicate body - also, by trying to save weight, all components are made just strong enough to withstand the rigors of use, but not much else and an impact like this can have serious consequences.

We have not seen such devotement in a racing driver in a long time. Maybe because he was driving something utterly different and unique, he was very fond of the car. We don’t blame him, as from what we’ve heard the DeltaWing handles and goes extremely well, while also being one of the coolest and the greenest cars on the track.

And an alternate video of the event.
