Nissan and Coca-Cola Begin Testing e-NV200 EV Van in Japan

As the Renault Twizy we say is perfect for short-distance delivery duties in the very congested town centers of the world’s largest cities, the Nissan e-NV200 all-electric van is an excellent way to transport a larger amount of goods quickly and without emitting any noxious gases along the way.

Now, field tests of the e-NV200 have begun in Yokohama, Japan, where a test prototype of the vehicle is being as a regional sales vehicle. The people who are testing and monitoring its progress also say that they only charge it during the night, when electricity is cheaper, and the entire electrical grid is all-but unused. Their challenge is to not use more than they have accumulated during the night, so as not to be forced to charge it during the day.

"Our aim from this trial is not just to reduce the CO2 we are responsible for," said Yukihiko Nakamura from Coca-Cola Japan. "After the earthquake in Northern Japan there is a big demand in society for what is called "peak shift". That is to reduce the consumption of electricity during the day time. We wanted to investigate what are the challenges we face when we try to achieve these two goals. By borrowing Nissan's prototype EV we can examine it in detail."
