Nissan seems to have a clear idea of what people want from them, and that is efficiency and low starting prices, not luxury fittings and high-end styling. The scheme is clearly evident in stuff like the Versa sedan in America and even the Qashqai in Europe, which offers efficient engines but very little in the way of looks.
The Altima sedan was developed for the Thailand market and is based on the same platform as the Micra, though it offers a much more substantial interior. According to the automaker, “this model was developed under Thailand’s eco-car program that was initiated by the Thai Ministry of Industry’s Board of Investment and meets all the requirements necessary to receive the “eco-car” designation.”
But the compact sedan might also be suited for the Australian market, as CarAdvice reports it’s going to arrive at Nissan dealerships in the Land Down Under towards the end of 2012. In Thailand, it’s sold with a 1.2-liter 79 hp engine, though the Micra’s 1.5-liter is also an option.
