It was born as a virtual concept car for a video game, but the world believes it's also a preview for a new hybrid supercar. The Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo made its debut at the last Goodwood Festival of Speed and is back again, painted in another color.
Nissan presented its full roster of debuts scheduled for the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. Among them is a weird kei car and the crossover thing they showed in Frankfurt last month. However, the 2020 has received an updated as well, covering both the paint and some aerodynamic element.
The first thing we notice is that the old gray paintjob has been changed for Fire Knight red. It's a nice shade that somehow reminds us of the Ferrari 458 Speciale.
The front features only minor cosmetic upgrades like a chromed grille and emblem. The chin spoiler is now made from clear-coated carbon fiber, and the wheels are painted black. Orange brake calipers make for an interesting contrast.
The massive rear wing is made of the same carbon fiber material as the spoiler at the front.
It should be noted that Nissan Design Europe handles the design of the concept car, and the engineering bits came from Japan. Details about the powertrain are scarce, but the Concept 2020 has two electric motors and a twin-turbo V6. That's the setup they're going for with the next GT-R, but we won't know anything else for a few more years.
By making a second version of its design study and showing it at a domestic motor show, Nissan is admitting the Concept 2020 Vision is more than just a "play toy" for Gran Turismo 6 gamers.
The Vision 2020 adapts many cues from current production Ferrari killer. The strong and slab-faced look of the GT-R is oozing out from every pore of the machine. It feels strangely familiar, and yet futuristic enough to get your attention and keep it with every angle. God knows we need a new one, as the R35 entered production in December 2007.
