At the end of last year, Chinese automaker Nio introduced the ES6, a mid-size electric SUV for built specifically for the local market. The car is barely on the market - it only began shipping to customers a month ago - and its manufacturer already announced a special version for it.
This week, Nio announced it struck a deal with Singapore-based gaming hardware giant Razer for the creation of a unique variant of the ES6. To be called NIO Razer ES6 Night Explorer, the car will be built in a limited run of just 88 units, and is to be sold in China only.

So, what’s so special about this car?

There’s the visible, unique exterior, of course, highlighted by neon green strips and lettering, but there are a couple of high-tech gadgets inside as well, such as Chroma lighting and THX Spatial Audio system.

No other details were released about the model.

The NIO Razer ES6 Night Explorer is just the beginning of the collaboration between the two companies. The carmaker plans to have Razer install ambient lighting based on the Razer Chroma RGB system.

“Beyond the limited edition ES6 Night Explorer, NIO and Razer will collaborate to enable future models of smart electric vehicles with ambient lighting powered by Razer Chroma RGB,” said Nio in a statement.

Combining Chroma with the smart capabilities of the Nio cars should mean that lighting effects will be highly customizable, and will support audio visualization features, synchronization, and even game integrations.

There’s no word on any modifications made to the car’s electric powertrain.

As standard, the ES6 is powered by two electric motors and a 70 kWh battery. The range of the car is estimated to be 250 miles (402 km) for the entry-level version, but two other, more potent variants are also offered.

Prices for the Nio ES6 start at around $52,000. Nio will sell the Razer edition for about $68,000.
