It’s Saturday morning. You and a few friends all talk about getting together and going shopping, maybe some lunch, and a bit of entertainment. But you’re doing all this while on vacation in Egypt.
Based on what you’ve just read at the top, you’ve been able to guess three things. One, that it’s Saturday. Two, that you are out in Egypt. Three, everyone just wants to eat and shop. But how will your day unfurl? Well, this is the answer to that question.
Ladies and gentlemen, what we’re looking at is nothing other than a floating entertainment district for the river Nile. This project is known as the Nile City and is from the mind of one Nada Elhadedy. What she has done here is create a future that could possibly come true. After all, there already are cruises up and down the river Nile.
Now that we know what we’re going to be talking about, let’s start deconstructing this showboat and see what the designer has in store for us. First off, look at the size of this thing. It may be a bit difficult to gauge exactly how large it is, but we’ll do our best to work out that info.
Actually, speaking of size, let’s try to solve that right now. To try to get some idea of how large the Nile City could be, I invite you to have a look in the gallery, specifically, the rendering where we can see the loading dock. Just look at how large the entrance is in comparison to the dock.
But all this space does have a purpose. For example, at the bow of this behemoth we find an entire café with a terrace and what seems like a pool bar. There’s even enough room that the designer is able to introduce palm trees into the whole scene.
From here we take a step into the vessel and are greeted by an immense space. It’s here that most of the other activities unfurl. From the multiple bars found throughout different sections of the vessel to the Chili’s restaurant at the back, it’s all here - the amenities found on the ship are all based on a real Nile river cruise ship.
Another section of the ship also includes another restaurant, and aft, where we also find the Chili’s, half of this surface area is occupied only by lounging and relaxation spaces. Another thing we notice is that the vessel is spread out on multiple decks, each one having its own activities.
For example, the highest deck is exposed to the beating desert Sun, so up here Nada took advantage of this and installed outdoor lounging areas equipped with couches, umbrellas, and for sure an outdoor bar to keep you nice and cool.
The deck below seems to be reserved more for dancing. Why? Well, because this deck seems to not include much else except a few tables here and there, and a giant chandelier that drops down to the deck below. Just imagine for a moment what it’s like to invite your spouse to a dance under the light of a crystal chandelier.
Now, I know it may seem like a longshot, but I’ve heard of places in the world that already employ these sorts of vessels. So, ultimately, it’s only a matter of time until concepts as extravagant as these hit waters.
