GoPro are still the leaders when it comes to action cameras, but the segment is getting busier and busier with each passing semester or so. Now, it looks like it's time for the big guys in the photo camera industry to step into the game and raise the competitiveness bar. Welcome Nikon KeyMission camera.
The Nikon KeyMission appears to be a pretty serious piece of gear, worthy of the Nikon badge. It introduces a somewhat new paradigm, as it actually incorporates two cameras facing opposite directions.
Both are wide-angle units, and the image they record is then "seamed" by the software, resulting 360-degree video or photography, as is the case. Since even the cheapest Chinese action cameras are now shooting in FullHD, it was only natural that Nikon upped the ante and delivered 4K recording right from the start.
Nikon says that the KeyMission is shockproof against 2-meter (6.6 ft) drops, and is also waterproof at depths of up to 33 meters (100 feet). The case also reads WiFi and Bluetooth, so we estimate this camera will integrate with anything, Windows, Android and iOS.
No pricing has been announced yet, but it looks like it will be available this spring. Likewise, we are waiting for more info, such as battery lifetime, accessories, mounting system compatibility and all.

How will the KeyMission photography stack up against the reputed Nikon photo quality
The KeyMission was introduced at CES, so we can only wait to see it used in the wild to judge how much Nikon DNA it has. That is, we're curious to evaluate the photo quality of this camera. Nikon being one of the major players in the segment, it's not hard to figure out that the expectations for this unit are also great.Nikon says that the KeyMission is shockproof against 2-meter (6.6 ft) drops, and is also waterproof at depths of up to 33 meters (100 feet).
