Nikola Badger Electric Pickup Pre-Orders Open at the End of the Month

If you don’t yet know what a Nikola Badger is don’t panic, you’re not supposed to, yet. That may change, though, if the guys over at Nikola actually manage to make this one a reality.

The Badger was announced by Tesla’s wannabe rivals back in February as a fuel-cell or battery powered electric pickup truck. As all things Nikola, it comes with the promise of incredible performance and thrilling rides.

The numbers for the vehicle look great – and as a side note, the thing itself looks great as well. In its top configuration, the pickup is expected to deliver 906 peak horsepower (455 hp continuous) and 980 ft. lbs. of torque, along with an overall range of 600 miles (965 km).

These numbers are said to be made possible thanks to either a 160 kWh lithium-ion battery or a 120 kW fuel cell, depending for whichever of the two variants of the pickup future customers go for. The powertrain that spins the wheels is there to give the truck over 8,000 pounds of towing capacity.

That's about all we know about this pickup so far, but we are promised the Badger “will dominate ICE trucks.” At least that’s what the company’s CEO Trevor Milton said in a tweet posted this week.

Nikola is about to hold its virtual investor conference on June 10 (that’s tomorrow) and on June 29 there will be an Apple-style event called Nikola World. On that same day, pre-order books for the Badger will be open, but we're not told yet how many $ are required to reserve one.

As far as we understand, whenever Nikola World takes place we’ll get to see a lifesize, completely functional Badger pickup in action, hopefully without the mishaps Tesla faced during its Cybertruck unveiling.

“You'll get to see a real operating truck, not a fake show truck. Expect stamped metal panels, functioning interior w/ hvac, 4x4, etc,” the exec said.

If the Badger actually gets made, it would probably become one of Nikola’s most cherished products so, fingers crossed.
