Nice EL Helmet Kit Can Be a DIY Project

Out of the many ideas we can find of public funding websites like Kickstarter, few of them are both very nice and take flight. This EL Helmet Kit is only very nice, but with a $10,000 (€7,572) goal, it just didn't fly. However, this idea (not exactly new) is still feasible as a DIY project for the safety-focused riders.

Paul Schnieder's kit is simple, involving some self-adhesive electroluminescent stripes which co on the helmet and are lighted at night, emitting a nice, highly-visible neon glow.

Basically, this idea can be applied to motorcycle and bicycle helmets, and even tho the rides themselves.

From where we stand, the biggest problem was the bulk at the back of the head. With riders constantly searching for lighter helmets, adding a silly-looking battery pack to their lid was definitely not the most appealing solution.

New, smarter designs could work, now that rechargeable batteries come in all sizes and shapes, so a collar-type self-adhesive battery pack is definitely feasible. It would offer a low profile, low aerodynamic impact and the advantages list could go on and on.

So that's pretty much another reason because these EL kits didn't make it to the next stage, but with EL technology spreading more and more, we believe they might just become more affordable and easy to build.
