Every part of a car is important when it comes to safety and unfortunately we have a new example that demonstrates that, with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigating the Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey after one death and three injuries were related to a service jack issue with these sister models.
The NHTSA is investigating 205,661 units of the Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans, with the complaints stating that “the jack failed and allowed the vehicle to fall on a person who was working under the otherwise unsupported vehicle."

"The complaints allege the jack can suddenly fail while in use and cause the vehicle to suddenly fall. In the failures reported, the jacks appeared to have failed at the slotted hinge joints which separated under load,” the NHTSA explains.

This kind of investigation usually leads to a recall, but no further info has been released for the moment.
