NFL Star Cam Newton Involved in a Car Accident, Was Sent to the Hospital

Even in his rookie year, Newton already broke numerous NFL records for passing and running the ball, but it was rather a shiver moment for Carolina Panthers’ fans the other day as their quarterback was involved in a serious accident. The football star ended up with two fractures in his lower back, but fortunately it would seem his career won’t be affected.

The car accident happened around 12pm on Tuesday and both Newton and the other driver were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. However, the 25-year old football star did spend the night at Carolinas Medical Center for observation, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Newton was heading to the Bank of America Stadium to watch game footage, when his pick-up truck collided with a sedan at an intersection. Cam’s vehicle flipped over several times before it finally stopped on its side. Reports are the sportsman managed to escape the wreck by lifting himself out through the back window.

Even though the accident seemed quite serious, it turns out the NFL player is safe from needing any further surgeries. Panthers’ owner Jerry Richardson earlier told the Charlotte Observer that Newton is “in good shape,” after speaking with Carolinas Medical Center doctors.

It would be quite a shame if Newton would have to miss a couple of games, considering his current evolution. According to ESPN, in his fourth season, the former No.1 overall pick has thrown for 2,812 yards, run for 425 yards and accounted for 19 total touchdowns this season (16 passing, 3 rushing).
