Launched in 1996, the first and so far only generation of the Mercedes-Benz V-Class was the first three-pointed star road car in history to feature front-wheel drive.
The second generation of the Mercedes-Benz MPV received a new name, with the Viano and the more van-like Vito being the only two three-pointed star nameplates in the large MPV sector since the year 2000.
The upcoming new generation of the Viano is set to return to the V-Class name, with the market launch to start in July 2014, according to MB Passion.
As we mentioned before, the new Viano/V-Class will be more upscale and a have a more car-like interior, thus trying to occupy the space left by the ill-fated R-Class in the Mercedes-Benz lineup.
Engine-wise, we won't see a V6 anymore but turbocharged four-cylinders only, in both diesel and gasoline guise. A hybrid model is also set to be introduced, with the old 5 G-Tronic being finally replaced by the newer 7 G-Tronic with start-stop function.
