Next Subaru WRX Previewed by Advanced Tourer Concept

Subaru has already stated that the next WRX will be much different from the regular Impreza sedan in terms of both looks and the architecture. For a while now, we had no idea what this meant, but a recent report from Motor Trend sheds light on the subject.

Apparently, the grille, lights an front bumper will all borrow heavily in terms of design from the 2011 Advanced Tourer Concept shown at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show last December. What’s more, the WRX will likely also cary the sort of wagon body that the concept car offered, though the sporty attitude will be conveyed through some beefier fenders.

Subaru is yet to officially announce which engine will go into the WRX, though a turbocharged version of the 2.0-liter boxer in the BRZ is expected to be used. Other options include a smaller 1.6-liter that uses a hybrid setup with electric all-wheel drive much like the Advanced Tourer Concept.
