Land Rover is set to release a new generation of the Freelander late next year and it seems that the vehicle will be rebranded, as is will be included in a future extended Discovery family.
Land Rover wants to help consumers understand its range better and at the moment it’s four-entity scheme, which includes the Range Rover family, the Discovery, the Defender and the Freelander, is confusing.
Thus, just like the Evoque was introduced as the smallest Range Rover, the Freelander will be the entry-level Discovery. Speaking of the Evoque, Land Rover is expected to also launch an Evoque XL in the future.
As for the future Discovery family. this will include two models replacing the Freelander, a five- and a seven-seater, as well as two flagship vehicles based on the company’s PLA aluminum platform. Land Rover could also launch an urban-destined version of the Freelander replacement, which would ride on a shortened Evoque architecture.
