The Infiniti G-Series has been getting closer and close to its German rivals and the Japanese carmaker is aiming even higher for the next generation of the vehicle, which is currently under development (you can see the latest spyshots here), but it seems that al least one of its German rivals is not afraid of this at all.
We are talking about Mercedes-Benz, which will reportedly borrow the platform of the next C-Class to the vehicle as part of its tie-up with the Renault-Nissan alliance. Motor Trend spoke to a company source that said the next G will use the platform of the future C-Class, but will have a wheelbase extended by 2 inches (51 mm).

Under the hood, the story will start with an upgraded petrol unit based on the VQ block and Mercedes could also offer the car a 2.1-liter four-cylinder diesel that would deliver over 200 hp, probably using a twin-turbo setup.

In addition to that, the insider revealed that Infiniti is working on a twin-turbo 3.7-liter V6 powerplant producing over 537 hp, which will be used in a future IPL (Infiniti Performance Line) model.
