Set to arrive in 2014, the next-generation Hyundai Sonata will feature a evolutionary design and won’t be too different than the current model, the South Korean automaker revealed.
Speaking to WardsAuto, Hyundai US CEO John Krafcik said the company is looking to refine the current styling for the seventh-generation Sonata rather than design a totally different shaped body.
“I think we found a design language that works, the ‘fluidic sculpture’ stuff, so I would say is not pulling back in any way. It’s more continuing to refine on that same trajectory we’re on,” Krafcik said. “If you look at the prior-generation Sonata, had nothing in common. This car, you’ll look at and say, ‘Oh yeah, that’s a Sonata. I get it. That’s cool.’”
Hyundai sold a record 230,605 Sonata sedans in the US last year, in a segment disputed with the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Ford Fusion.
