Next Honda Civic Type R Will Be a 2.0L Turbo, Coming in 2013

Only 210 hp? 1 photo

We quite like the new look of the Civic hatch that made its arrival in Frankfurt. However, the engine range looked the same with the exception of the fuel-saving measures, so we were really concerned for the Type R version. After all, there was no way that a new generation would survive with just a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated unit under the bonnet.
Good news Honda fans, according to AutoExpress, a new Type R is coming and the guys at Mugen have got their hand dirty in the engine bay. When the car arrives in 2013, it will be the first ever turbocharged Civic, offering up 2.0-liter with forced induction. There’s also a bit of bad news, as the hot hatch will only have somewhere in the region of 210 horsepower. Sound like they’ve been reading VW Golf GTI manuals.

We’re not particularly happy with the news, but at least it’s a step in the right direction. Honda will also only offer the car the Type R as a five-door. How utterly sensible of them!
