Green car lovers from around the world, get ready for this: Toyota will reveal the new Prius PHEV next month after the ongoing model served customers for no less than seven years.
We knew the Toyota Prius was coming soon since Jim Lentz was kind enough to mention that a couple of months ago, not before adding that he drove the car and "it's fantastic".
However, we weren't expecting the popular PHEV to land this year, and for sure we wouldn't have imagined it will happen next month.
But according to a report published on Autonews, the Japanese brand will launch the Prius for the media on September 8. However, there is no info on when the company will start production or sales of the updated model.
We're saying this because the lack of consistent updates for the Prius hit Japan demand really hard. Also, cheaper gasoline wasn't exactly what the doctor prescribed for the Toyota Prius in the US market, so the new generation could prove instrumental for the company's success in this area.
Sure, they have the Mirai, which seems to have been well-received by the public, but we should remind you the fuel cell EV will be sold in limited numbers, whereas the Prius is expected to put on a good display as far as sales figures are concerned.
Inside, the next Prius will maintain its center-biased gauge cluster, spread wide across the center of the dash, but it will also adopt a large LCD screen dominating the center stack.
We guess this will handle the majority of the vehicles functions while the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system will be operated by traditional buttons - in a strip placed beneath the graphic display.
Furthermore, the driver will be able to see the speedometer, transmission settings, energy usage and flow-related details on the information display at the top of the dashboard.
