The next-generation Ford F-150, which is expected to be introduced next year as a 2015 model, will drop its fully boxed frame design.
According to Auto Guide, quoting a source familiar with the truck’s development, Ford will use a C-shaped frame structure. Major sections will remain fully-boxed, while the C-shape design will be used for portions of the frame.

Little is known about the next-generation F-150, but word has it Ford is looking to shave up to 700 pounds (317 kgs) off the truck by fitting it with an aluminum body and other parts made out of lightweight materials.

Previewed by the Atlas Concept in January, the 2015 Ford F-150 is expected to be fully unveiled at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, with production to commence in July.
