The base engine for most American ‘muscle cars’ has always been a decently-potent V6 unit, which can still move the car with relative ease, yet it still left room for the higher-powered V8-engined versions, which were still the ones to go for.
However, as Ford has announced that it will be offering its next Mustang with a turbocharged four-pot, Chevrolet is now, apparently, going to do the same thing with the next generation Camaro. It will most likely get a version of the engine already found in the Cadillac XTS, for instance, and in that application, the two-liter unit makes around 280 hp.
The V6 version will not be dropped completely, and it is expected to have around 300 hp, while the top of the range variant will still benefit from V8 power (and noise). Not many details are available, but they will be made public closer to the car’s debut, which is slated for 2014.
