The Jeep Wrangler is reportedly getting ready for an extensive makeover in 2016, and Chrysler has already started looking for people that could work on America’s popular compact SUV.
According to Automotive News, the company is looking to use advanced high-strength steels for the Wrangler’s frame as well as some aluminum body parts, which means that that Chrysler is looking to offer a lighter next-gen Jeep using the same recipe that helped the new Ram 1500 pickup truck shed 30 pounds.
All told, its looks like Jeep’s Wrangler Stitch concept, which was revealed at this year’s Moab Easter Jeep Safari, is indeed a hint at what the next vehicle could look like. But a bit less trail rated and looking more road friendly of course...
In addition, Jeep might also fit the Wrangler with the air suspension system used on the Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500, the pickup truck’s pulse-width modulation technology, as well as a diesel engine and eight-speed automatic transmission.
Lastly, the 2016 Wrangler could be offered without it trademark fold-down windshield, and a fixed one instead. Whether these speculations are true or not, it remains to be seen...
