Scheduled to hit European dealerships in the fourth quarter of the year, the next-generation Ford Mondeo - already available as the Fusion in the United States - will be offered with a tiny 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine, according to a recent report coming from Auto Express.
The frugal unit will be available alongside the new 1.5-liter EcoBoost (148 hp / 240 Nm) and the familiar 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter EcoBoost mills. The diesel lineup will include the well known 2.0-liter and a new 1.5-liter TCDi, whie the gasoline 2.0-liter engine will be combine with an electric motor for a hybrid combo that will deliver 188 hp.
The aforementioned source adds that the new Mondeo will come with a choice of two transmissions - a standard six-speed manual and an optional six-speed dual-clutch Powershift automatic - while a diesel version will gain an auto gearbox and four-wheel drive.
Pricing has yet to be revealed, but Auto Express says the new model will be slightly cheaper that model it will be replacing, with a starting price set at GBP15,500. Stay tuned for more details on the new European sedan.
