BMW’s research in lightweight materials for the upcoming i lineup is said to help the next-generation G11 7 Series model, which is scheduled to arrive in 2015, lose some serious weight.
Now tipping the scales at 1,900 kg (4,188 lbs), the new G11 7 Series will become lighter thanks to a new steel - aluminum - carbon fiber structure that will replace the traditional steel monocoque construction. In fact, the next flagship sedan could lose more than 250 kg (550 lbs), which will make it lighter than today’s F10 5 Series model (1,670 kg / 3,681 lbs).

As we already told you back in March, when our photographers spotted the vehicle during some snow testing, the next-generation BMW 7 Series will arrive somewhere around 2016 with a new 760 xDrive M Performance version and a lot of new on-board technology.
