Audi fans can rejoice as new details concerning the next-gen R8 sports car have finally emerged and it appears that the vehicle will not be adopting current trends, meaning forced-induction or hybridized powerplants.
Thus, it seems the company has decided on continuing developing the redesigned Audi R8 on the same Lamborghini mid-engine platform. So, the existing 525 horsepower 5.2-liter V10 as well as the 430 horsepower 4.2-liter V8 will remain, but Audi still promises to have some minor output increases.

The new R8 will come to incorporate the architectural direction of the Huracan and it appears the company won’t change the design completely, but rather evolve and improve. Moreover, drivers can even expect a slightly reduced mass as the German automobile maker is trying to introduce new lightweight materials.

Since the vehicle will have its bones derived from the Huracan, we’re not exactly sure what’s going to happen to the gearbox(es) as the said Lamborghini doesn’t include a traditional manual transmission. Therefore, we can expect Audi to drop the six-speed stick and have a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic instead.

In case you were wondering about the vehicle’s big launch, let us tell you that you’ll have to wait a bit as the R8 is expected to launch in 2015 and as a model sometime in 2016.
