Next Ford Ka Coming in 2014

The future generation Ford Ka will reportedly see daylight in 2014 and will be based on the Start Concept presented by the American carmaker at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show. A report rolled out by Autoblog.ar claims that the future Ka is likely to be launched globally with a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine that would release less than 100 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

Brazil is currently in pole position to host production of the upcoming Ka, but China and India are also in the race for the country to manufacture the model. European production on the other hand is still under consideration, but the vehicle will most likely make it to the Old Continent in the initial three-door configuration.

Rumors about a potential production version of the Start emerged soon after the concept's debut at the Beijing Auto Show, with voices claiming that the vehicle created by an international group of designed could hit the market with only minor modifications.

The concept was powered by the same engine believed to make it to production, namely the new Ford EcoBoost engine that has a 1.0 liter displacement and uses advanced turbocharging together with spark-ignited, direct injection fuel management systems to offer the power of a naturally aspirated 1.4 liter unit. The powerplant is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and is expected to emit under 100 grams of CO2 per km.

Of course, Ford hasn't commented on these rumors so, in case the Start concept has a chance to enter production, either as a Ka or as an all-new model, expect to see a preview of the final version during one of the upcoming auto shows.
