With rumors at one point claiming that the next Focus RS was going to be an all-wheel drive hybrid, with the 2.0-liter ECOboost from the ST driving the front wheels, and electric motors driving the rear wheels to achieve a total power output similar to the current Volvo-powered RS.
Apparently, Ford is reconsidering building the Focus RS at all, and may in fact replace it with a hotter version of the Fiesta ST, by boosting its power to around 220hp delivered to the tarmac via the front wheels. The Clio RS (the current one) would finally have an adequate adversary, after annihilating everything in its class (and a bit beyond it).
Engineers at Ford’s SVT performance division, have stated that making an RS-badged Fiesta would be a far simpler, cheaper and less time consuming project than making a Focus RS. The clincher may just be the fact that the Fiesta already has a good ‘racing’ image, courtesy of Ken Block and Peter Solberg.
