Next Dodge Viper to Be Inspired by "Naked Woman on the Beach"

Dodge Viper has always been a striking appearance and, as far as its parent manufacturer is concerned, this thing will continue on the future iteration of the model as well. Ralph Gilles, the head of Chrysler's design department, said in a statement that the upcoming Viper, due to be launched in 2012 and sold as a 2013 model, will be "drop-dead beautiful" and will be inspired by "a naked woman on the beach".

Whatever that means, the Viper will be much more appealing, Gilles emphasized, and will try to snatch customers from Porsche's and General Motors' yard. Although Chrysler is now living under Fiat's tutorship, the new Viper won't borrow powerplants from the Italian Ferrari, the official said. Furthermore, the model will make it to Europe as well, but only in small numbers.

“It's an icon, and as a performance brand, it's important for me to have a performance vehicle,”
Gilles was quoted as saying by Automotive News.

Back in December however, Gilles said in an interview that the next Viper will get a a chassis set-up designed with assistance from Fiat, but not derived from any current product.

Autocar on the other hand suggested in late 2010 that the possibility to see a Ferrari engine fitted under the hood of the next Viper still exists, revealing that two different configurations are now under review: an 8.4-liter V10, possibly using Fiat’s patented MultiAir technology, or an entry-level V8 from Chrysler’s range.
