Newly Purchased Ferrari Caught Fire Out of the Blue

A Russian woman gloated after she went to pick up her brand new Ferrari, commissioned especially for her. The woman’s happiness didn’t last long though, as the $814,000 (600,000 euros) car instantly took fire and was ashes in less than an hour after it was purchased.

Her desperate attempt to extinguish it failed. Luckily, she escaped the incident without injuries. The firemen that came to help, but just couldn’t do anything. The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti was completely damaged by the fire.

“I owned Ferrari for 30 minutes. Just bought it for 600,000 EUR and was heading home, when I noticed some smoke coming out from under the hood, I promptly pulled to the sideway and ran out of the car. Just in minutes all my new Ferrari was caught on fire. I really don’t know what has happened,” said the unnamed Russian woman for English Russia.

The name of the 612 is taken after the home town of one of Ferrari's coach builders, Carozzeria Scaglietti. The engine used on the 612 is a 5.7 V12 that was also used on the 575 Maranello. The Tipo F133E that produces 533 horsepower is able to propel the car to a top speed 315 km/h (199 mph).

Unfortunately, the Russian owner didn’t have the time to enjoy all of these elements that the sports car had to offer. Purchased from a Moscow showroom, the car was a heavily modified 2006 model, which had three previous owners before the woman.

The reasons behind the fire are still being investigated. Maybe the Ferrari decided to set itself on fire instead of being driven by a woman or, as a dealership representative told the Russian paper Kommersant, "Anything could happen during these three years including rats gnawing the wires through."
