Tourism is a huge industry, but this doesn’t mean it can avoid green regulations that are being applied in every other major business. And when we say "green", we don't strictly refer to carbon emissions, but taking care of our planet in general, with domestic animals being included too.
You’ve probably been in a foreign country, visiting a major city wanting to take a tour in one of those old horse carriages. It might be fun at first sight, but think of those poor animals having to roam on hot asphalt all day long. You might ask yourself why are we still doing this in the digital era.
Well, at least one major city decided to put an end to the business at some point by replacing classic carriages with electric ones.
The NYCLASS animal activist organization believes the horse and carriage business is crude to animals, so they invested around $500,000 to create an electric carriage and try to replace the classic solution of taking a smelly tour around the city.
The Creative Workshop, a restoration and coach-building business in Florida, has been commissioned to create a viable solution for the problem and the end result is what you see up in the picture above.
Now known as the eCarriage, the hand-made vehicle accommodates up to 9 passengers, it runs solely on electricity and still looks like it has been built in the early 1900s. The vehicle can run for 10 hours (heated seats included) and it also meets current safety regulations.
Sounds a lot better than having to constantly feed the animal and clean after it, right?
The plan is to convince horse carriage drivers to switch to the electric version and deploy a batch of 70 eCarriages as soon as possible to relieve the Central Park area of the primitive way of traveling.
As you’ll see in the video bellow, the first eCarriage just did its first run and by the looks of it, horses will soon be free to run on the fields.
