Thought racing games can’t take you by surprise with anything new? The upcoming World of Speed promises to do that by forcing players to cooperate in order to win. And there’s a new trailer available now to emphasize that.
If you played a couple of Competitive matches of Counter-Strike Global Offensive for example, you might know that teamwork and communication is absolutely essential in order to win along with individual skills.

This is exactly what Slightly Mad Studios wan’t to replicate in the world of racing with their upcoming World of Speed MMO game. The arcade-ish installment will feature dozens of licensed cars and tracks as well as multiple game modes.

Among them, Team Racing is one of the most important, which sets the game apart, despite coming with a bit of Need For Speed Carbon aroma. Before each race, the players must prepare for what’s to come - each team must discuss the objectives of each player, the cars and setups they’ll use.

“Objectives you said? In a multiplayer racing game?” Of course. In Team Racing, the winners won’t necessarily be those who cross the finish line first. The first, second and third players who end the laps will gain points according to their place, but that will just add to a bigger score which will be built during the race.

This means that slipstreaming (or drafting), finding and using shortcuts, overtaking, mastering corners, drifting and following the correct racing line will be scored, while doing multiple things like that at the same time will actually boost the numbers even more.

And this seems to be only the tip of the iceberg according to the developers. The will soon be in its Beta testing phase, to which you can sign up and help by the way, in the fourth quarter of 2014.
