New VW Passat CC Exclusive to Come with Continental Tires

Only addressed to European markets, and already on sale in Germany, the Exclusive Passat CC line from Volkswagen will benefit from Continental tires, the carmaker announced today. The new ContiSportContact 3 with ContiSeal technology is now being factory-fitted in the size of 235/40 R 18 95 W XL, and is approved for speeds of up to 167 mph (270 km/h).

“We are delighted with this further approval from Volkswagen for the ContiSportContact 3 with its seal technology,”
Jörg Göner, automotive engineer from Continental, said in a release. “Volkswagen is currently equipping all Passat-CC models exclusively with Continental tires with the seal technology to provide the driver a high level of safety in the case of tire failure.”

Based on the ContiSeal technology, the system allows a vehicle to continue traveling despite penetration by nails or screws. This is thanks to a protective layer on the inside of the tire’s tread that immediately seals the holes, thus preventing air from escaping.

“Almost any leak caused by an object of up to five millimeters in diameter can be sealed, meaning that about 85 percent of typical flat tires can be covered," a company statement reads.

The new Exclusive equipment package for the Passat CC is available with all engine configurations across the range, with pricing starting at EUR35,225.

The car is available with three engines, two petrol and one diesel, as it follows: 2.0-liter TDI, 1.8-liter TSI and 3.6-liter FSI. The last one develops a maximum power of 300 horsepower at 6600 rpm and a maximum torque of 320 Nm at 2500 rpm. In terms of performance, the car is able to reach 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds, while topping at 155 mph (249 km/h). Fuel consumption goes around 15.5 mpg (15.2 l/100km) city and 32.2 mpg (7.3 l/100km) highway.
