Founded in 1918 by John D. Hertz and famous for the GT350H Mustang rentals from the 1960s, the Hertz Corporation is the first car rental company to offer the new Volvo XC90 for rent. At the present moment, the second generation of the Swedish mid-size SUV is available for rent in the United Kingdom, with XC90 rentals to follow in the US in the following months.
This bit of news holds some curiosity to it if you consider that the peeps from Volvo ramped up production to handle the increasing demand for the 2016 model year XC90. Furthermore, the least costly Volvo XC90 is the £45,750 D5 AWD Momentum. In the United States of America, the cheapest 2016 model year Volvo XC90 is the $48,900 T6 AWD.
According to Hertz, the Volvo XC90 rental fleet can be found at the London Marble Arch, Heathrow Airport, and the Edinburgh Airport, with more locations to follow. The premium seven-seater SUV is part of Hertz UK’s Prestige Collection, which is a “unique line of luxury and performance vehicles that can transform an ordinary business or leisure trip into a remarkable one.”
Neil Cunningham, General Manager of Hertz UK, declared that “the Hero Model of our Prestige Collection, the all-new XC90 perfectly represents the luxury, high levels of comfort, elegance and performance embodied by the Volvo range. Whether you need a stylish car for business, a special occasion or a road trip with the family, this Volvo masterpiece is the right choice.” Well, it’s better than renting a Fiesta or a PT Cruiser, that’s for sure.
There’s a catch though. Despite the selected locations in the UK, Sweden, and Germany and the US in the near future, the limited availability of rental XC90s is not the biggest of problems. A minimum age of 25 years old is, along with the need to show two credit cards when renting the vehicle. If Swedish crossovers aren’t your cup of tea, Hertz also offers rentals such as the Aston Martin DB9 and a few muscle cars.
