Back in the day when VW range wasn’t filled with every body on every chassis they make, the Phaeton stood head above shoulders as a flagship to the brand. It looked like it had great executive appeal at first, but as time passed, it became clear that it didn’t quite cut it in its market segment.
According to CAR Magazine, VW has gone back to the drawing board and is reading a new one that could come to market as early as 2015.
The platform will be borrowed from Audi and it could even see a plug-in hybrid version. It sounds like it will be a much different car to the current generation: powered by two V6 variants and sitting between the A6 and A8 price-wise.
